The Typing of the Skullgirls is a game mode available in all versions of Skullgirls Encore.

To start up this feature, players must type 'gottatypefast!' (including exclamation mark) during the start up screen (while the company logos are being displayed). Successful input will trigger various fighting sounds along with the menu screen displaying 'The Typing of the Skullgirls Encore'.

GameplayEdit

Unlike standard play, each player's Blockbuster gauge (super moves) fills automatically. Once a player uses a super, a timed typing exercise appears, which awards damage based on the player's typing accuracy and swiftness. Perfectly typed words do 1.5x damage, "right but not perfect" phrases award standard damage, and totally botched attempts cut dealt damage to 10 percent. The totals are reversed when an AI opponent uses a Blockbuster move on the player, meaning that players are spared damage according to their ability to type phrases associated with incoming attacks.

The Typing of the Skullgirls is only able to be played in Story, Arcade and Versus modes and is unavailable in both Tournament and Online modes.

ControlsEdit

In the PC and PS3 versions, a keyboard must be used to type in various words. However, the main fighting element of the gameplay and menu navigation can still be controlled using an Xbox controller as normal. If using a controller, when a typing sequence occurs, users must switch to the keyboard to type in the word and are able to switch back to their controllers after the Blockbuster is performed.

It does not matter if the letters typed are lower-case or capital. All punctuation and spaces must be included, however.

TriviaEdit

  • The title is a play on the SEGA arcade shooter 'The Typing of the Dead'.
  • Mike Z has stated that this mode was implemented to make the game more fun for those who aren’t typically into fighters; helping to increase the fairness of the playing field when fighting friends who are at a higher skill level.
  • The code "gottatypefast" is a reference to the theme song of the Sonic X, in which the line "gotta go fast" is heard.
